5th grade students read "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs and collected text evidence in order to conduct a trial. Pictured is the defense team, prosecution team and our school resource officer, Mr Pennington, our judge. Students had to cite evidence to prove or disprove Mr. White's guilt or innocence of killing his son. Students researched the possible charges of murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree, and manslaughter and their possible penalties. The jury in the first block class found Mr. White guilty of manslaughter and recommended a sentence of 20 years. The jury in the second block acquitted Mr. White of all charges.

Some of our 5th graders at EWMS traced patterns, cut out, embroidered faces, sewed, and stuffed little fruits, veggies, and treats during homeroom!
